CBD for Skin
Much of the research surrounding CBD is focused on how it affects both the CNS and immune system in the treatment of anxiety, pain and inflammation. In addition, CBD can play an important part in promoting the health of the largest organ in the body, our skin.
The skin has one of the most important functions in the human body in that it is our first line of defense protecting against injury and infection. The Endocannabinoid system (ECS) is known to be valuable in regulating the nervous system and the immune system, but it also contributes to maintaining healthy skin. Numerous skin cell types have different ECS molecules and receptors, and CBD can act upon these molecules and receptors to treat skin conditions including psoriasis and eczema.
A study published in the Journal of Dermatologic Sciences in 2007 showed that when CBD was applied to human skin cells, it resulted in the inhibition of keratinocytes (epidermal skin cells) that are associated with psoriasis.
CBD also reduces sebum production by the skin. Sebum normally plays a protective role, but in excess, can cause acne.
CBD also has antioxidant effects, and has been proven to be more effective than Vitamin C and Vitamin E. This means that CBD may be beneficial in counteracting the signs of aging caused by free radicals.
CBD is safe and effective for all skin types but may be especially helpful for people who struggle with inflammatory skin conditions, skin sensitivity, skin dryness and acne. It is safe and easy to administer, so if you are struggling with skin issues, consider using CBD in your skin care routine.
